Mario V. Navasero, Scientist I (DOST Scientific Career System), University Researcher II at the Crop Protection Cluster, College of Agriculture and Curator for Psylloids at the Museum of Natural History will be given the L.B. Uichanco Memorial Award for Outstanding Entomologist on May 9, 2014 during the 45th Anniversary and Annual Scientific Conference of the Pest Management Council of the Philippines, Inc. at the Mandarin Plaza Hotel, Cebu City.

The said award will be presented to Navasero by the Philippine Association of Entomologists, Inc. (PAE) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to insect systematics, biological control and pest management of economically important crops, exemplifying the Filipino entomologist who excels in both basic and applied aspects of biological research and deserving to be among the few conferred scientists who have been admitted to the prestigious Scientific Career System.

The PAE's LB Uichanco Award is dedicated to the memory and contributions of Dr. Leopoldo B. Uichanco to the field of Philippine Entomology. Dr. Uichanco, is the College of Agriculture's Entomology Department's first Filipino instructor as well as its first Master of Science graduate. Uichanco became the first Filipino to head the department in 1923, holding the position up to 1956.
