Prof. Manalo is MNH's curator for forest fungi. Ma'm Mutya is presently an Associate Professor 7 at the Department of Forest Biological Sciences, College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), University of the Philippines Los Baños. She also is concurrently the College Secretary of the CFNR. 

Mutya obtained her BS Forestry and MS Microbiology from the University of the Philippines Los Banos in 1976 and 1984, respectively. 

Her expertise are in the fields of forest pathology, forest mycology and forest microbiology. She takes particular research interest in forest tree diseases and forest biotechnology.
