Mycological Herbarium

Mycological Herbarium

The Mycological Herbarium is one of the country’s premier depository institutions of fungal collections. It is listed in the Index Herbariorum in 1968 as CALP (College of Agriculture, Laguna, Philippines), after being established by Dr. Tricita H. Quimio with the help of her mentor, mycologist Dr. Don Reynolds.

In the 1960s, Reynolds and Quimio made extensive fungal collections in the country, from the islands of Batanes to the islands of Sulu. The collection became known as the G. O. Ocfemia Memorial Herbarium, named after the first Filipino chair of the Department of Plant Pathology at UPLB.

The Mycological Herbarium now boasts of a collection of more than 11,000 ascomycetes, basidiomycetes, and myxomycetes. It includes the the important collections of Dr. Tricita H. Quimio, former MNH Director Dr. Ireneo J. Dogma, Jr., and long  time herbarium technician Manuel M. Baldovino.
