Forestry Herbarium and Wood Collection

The Forestry Herbarium and Wood Collection is a collection of roughly 13,000 specimens of forest-related plants comprising 135 families and 645 genera. The collected specimens number more than 1,500 species, 700 specimens of which are palms (representing 18 genera and 103 species). It is registered as Los Baños Collection (LBC) in the Index Herbariorum.

It safeguards priceless collections dating back to the 1920s from various tropical forests in the Philippines, e.g. Mt. Isarog in Camarines Sur, Mt. Pulag in Benguet, Mt. Malarayat in Batangas, Mt. Guiting-guiting in Sibuyan Island, Romblon and the legendary Mt. Makiling in Laguna.

The collection also includes donated specimens from foreign countries, i.e. Thailand Botanical Herbarium, and of course, the more than 600 palm and rattan specimens collected by eminent plant taxonomist and curator, Professor Emeritus Edwino S. Fernando.
