The Microbial Culture Collection maintains around 2,000 strains of bacteria, yeasts and mold species and a number of algal cultures. 

It is registered with the World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC) as WDCM #39 – MCC-UPLB – Microbial Culture Collection. 

It includes strains which have been collected and cultured by Dr. Priscilla C. Sanchez  (yeasts and molds), Dr. Tricita M. Quimio and Dr. Lourdes M. Tapay (microfungi), and Dr. Marian P. De Leon (cave microbes).

On the other hand, the Algal Culture Collection is registered in the World Federation of Culture Collection as WDCM #444 – DBUP – Algal Culture Collection. 

It has maintained around 50 strains of micro algae since the 1980s through the efforts of Professor Emeritus Milagrosa Martinez-Goss.
