Agie Angeles
Interns

Agie Angeles is a third-year biology student majoring in plant biology at Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa, Manila. He served as an intern at the University of the Philippines Los Banos Museum of Natural History’s Botanical Herbarium, and Forestry Herbarium and Wood Collection for a total of 250 hours. His interest primarily focuses on the different native ferns and trees of the Philippines.

As a child, he spent his time watching various TV programs documenting different wildlife and nature, which developed his love and interest in doing activities strongly linked to nature and eventually resulted in him choosing Biology as the field of his profession. His time as an intern at UPLB MNH allowed him to meet different people who have been working in the field of biology for years, broaden his knowledge and understanding of various things, and further inspired him to pursue the program. Despite the online setting of the internship program, he has learned so much, including different fern and fern ally’s species collected not only in the Philippines, but also from other countries, as well as endemic and native trees collected from Kalbario-Patapat National Park, Ilocos Norte.

His month of being an intern in the UPLB, MNH, and doing the various tasks assigned by his supervisors helped him improve his fundamental skills in practical biology and also deepened his interest and appreciation of plant collections and wild floras of the Philippines. He was thankful for all the people who allowed such an opportunity for him, especially for Ma’am Michelle and Sir Ariel, who guided and taught him and his co-interns throughout the internship program.
