Dr. Joseph S. Masangkay is the museum’s curator for wildlife diseases. Fondly called “Doc Masangkay” by fellow veterinarian colleagues and students, he is currently Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Pathology at the UPLB College of Veterinary Medicine-Department of Veterinary Paraclinical Sciences. He specializes in veterinary pathology of laboratory and wildlife animals, specially on wildlife diseases and management.
Doc Masangkay is recognized for his important contributions in the field of veterinary medicine, specifically on laboratory animal genetics and wildlife animal pathology in the Philippines. His research has provided valuable information on the protection, conservation and proper use of animals as laboratory models in biochemical research.
He has been awarded as a distinguished professor, an outstanding teacher and researcher in veterinary medicine and animal sciences, and veterinarian alumnus of UP Los Banos.
Doc Masangkay obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of the Philippines in 1970. He finished his MS and DAgr from Nagoya University, Japan in 1977 and 1983, respectively
