Microbial and Algal Culture Collections

Dr. Noel G. Sabino is MNH’s curator for bacteria, yeasts and molds. He is currently an Associate Professor 7 at the Microbiology Division of the Institute of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, UPLB. Sir Noel obtained his PhD in Environmental Science minor in Microbiology in 2016. He received his MS Microbiology minor in Soil Science (1995) and BS Biology major in Microbiology, cum laude, (1988) from UPLB.

He specializes in microbiology, soil science and microbial ecology while his research interests are in honeybees, lactic acid bacteria, bacterial diversity in bees, bee pathology; bee products and propolis.

He is a member of the following organizations:Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc., Gamma Sigma Delta – The Honor Society for Agriculture, Mycological Society of the Philippines, Inc., Philippine Network of Microbial Culture Collections, Association of Systematic Biologists of the Philippines, Philippine Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria, Inc., Beekeepers Network Foundation Philippines, Inc., Philippine Phycological Society, Inc. and the Biology Teachers’ Association.

Dr. Sabino received the prestigious Professor William L. Fernandez Award for Excellence in Teaching Microbiology, awarded by the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. in 2014. He was also certified as a Specialist Microbiologist by the Philippine Academy of Microbiology in 2000.
