Interns

Cara Mia A. Digo is a 4th Year BS Biology student majoring in Plant Biology from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology. She is from a hinterland barangay called Digkilaan in Iligan City, so she is always ready for an adventure in nature. She loves to read books and watch documentaries on just about any topic, from food to humanities (Usually by Kara David).

While she initially wanted to take BS Forestry at UPLB, she feels she’s been destined to take Plant Biology as a major in MSUIIT and intern at the UPLB MNH Botanical Herbarium as she has been an avid fan of Archaeology, Paleontology and Paleobotany since it was her childhood dream to be able to work in a museum, and now it has been fulfilled. She was able to database, image, repair and analyze herbarium specimens of the Piperaceae family and the Pteridophytes, thanks to MNH and its amazing staff and curators.

She also learned how to masterfully create an herbarium specimen, from collection and photo-documentation, to plant pressing, labelling and mounting. In addition to curatorial work, she was able to garner valuable skills for botanists, from scientific botanical illustration to preliminary species identification based on distinguishing characters. Her experience at MNH will surely never be forgotten and inspired her to come back in the near future as a graduate student.
