Elanie Lou M. Tabuada is taking up a Bachelor of Science in Biology majoring in Plant Biology at a prestigious university: Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology. She chose the path of being a botanist because of how wide, interesting, and diverse the world of plants is. From towering trees to delicate flowers, each plant has its own unique characteristics and adaptations that fascinate her. She is particularly drawn to the study of pteridophytes, which are a group of non-flowering vascular plants that include ferns, horsetails, and clubmosses. Whether she is exploring the lush fern-covered forests or dissecting the complex fronds of a fern, she feels an undeniable connection. Exploring different ecosystems and discovering new species of plants is a constant source of excitement and fulfillment for her as a botanist.

She is not a talker but more of a doer. She is opportunistic, and with that, she grabbed this great moment to hone her acquired skills and learn more about her field of interest. She believes in taking action rather than wasting time on empty words (fancy words to say rather than admitting she’s afraid of oral recitations). With her proactive attitude, she seizes every opportunity that comes her way, utilizing it to further her personal and professional growth. By being a doer, she can make a tangible difference in her life and the lives of other people, even if it’s all the way to Luzon.

She’s been fond of dancing ever since she was a kid. The greatest part of having this kind of hobby is meeting wonderful people with the same passion. She often joins dance classes and workshops, where she connects with individuals who share her love for movement and rhythm. Through dance, she has formed deep and meaningful friendships that have brought joy and inspiration to her life. She became more extrovert and understood the true meaning of teamwork and cooperation. These friendships have not only enriched her hobby but have also provided a strong support system that encourages her to pursue her dreams and overcome any challenges that come her way.

Family and friends are her support system, which she relies on and needs throughout her chosen career until she gets to wear sablay and a maroon robe that signifies her completion of her college degree and achieving her lifelong dream. Their unwavering belief in her abilities and constant encouragement have fueled her determination to work hard and excel in her studies. With their support, she knows that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to, and she is forever grateful for the invaluable role they play in her journey towards success.

Being at the University of the Philippines Los Baños Museum of Natural History is a stepping stone towards furthering her education and pursuing a career in the field of botany. The botanical herbarium’s extensive collection and expert staff provide her with endless opportunities for hands-on learning and research, knowing that each day spent in the herbarium will contribute to her growth and knowledge. The support of her family, combined with the invaluable resources at the Museum of Natural History, sets her on a path where she can truly make a difference in the scientific community.
