Krys M. Flamiano is an MS student of Wildlife Science of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). She is now in the process of completing her thesis on the invasion of the Finlayson’s squirrel (Callosciurus finlaysonii) in Luzon. She has taken up this course as due to her deep passion for animals and their research.

By volunteering at the UPLB Museum of Natural History, she had hoped to see the taxidermied and preserved specimens that have been collected by the late Dr. Dioscoro S. Rabor, the Father of Philippine Wildlife, and other renowned scientists of the field, while also gaining proper knowledge and experience in handling such rare and exquisite pieces from our country’s unique fauna.

She has just started volunteering at UPLB MNH but have already learned a lot, from organizing and updating the record sheet of the mammal collection to properly dusting and cleaning the museum specimens and their respective display cabinets. Her time at UPLB MNH is definitely a valuable experience that she will surely use in her future career in wildlife.
