The UPLB Museum of Natural History is very pleased to announce its Digital Photography Contest as part of its activities in its upcoming 40th Anniversary Week Celebrations from 26-30 September 2016. The MNH 40th Anniversary Photo Contest will have the theme “Celebrating Philippine Natural Heritage. Everyone currently in residence in the Philippines are eligible to join. Contest Theme

The MNH 40th Anniversary Photo Contest will have the theme “Celebrating Philippine Natural Heritage”. Entries must strictly adhere to the competition theme. Participants should submit photos and images taken anywhere in the Philippines. The photos should depict only images of the rich natural resources (i.e. biodiversity) of the Philippines. MNH reserves the right to exclude any entry which, in its sole discretion, does not adhere to the competition theme.

Who Can Join?

The contest is open to everyone currently residing in the Philippines. MNH employees including their relatives up to the fourth degree of affinity or consanguinity are disqualified from joining the competition.

Submission of Entries

Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of two entries only. Entries to be submitted must be in full color. Photos in Black and White or Sepia are not allowed. Entries should be submitted electronically via email through [email protected]. Deadline for the online submission of entries is on September 16, 2016 (Friday) at 12:00 midnight.

Submission should have the following subject: Name (surname, first name), Photo title, Entry No. Here is an example: dela Cruz, Juan, BiodiverCity, Entry #1 A participant is not allowed to use multiple email addresses in sending their entries. A participant who submits his/her entries using multiple or different email addresses will be disqualified from the competition.The entry to be submitted should be an image/photo with a corresponding “photo title” and “photo caption”. The caption must indicate the place where the image was taken, and must have an accurate description of what the photo is about.

Photograph Requirements

Photographs should be in digital format/file. Only photos/images submitted via the MNH email will be accepted. Photographs to be submitted should have no watermark or digitally placed borders. There should be no identifying mark on the images to eliminate any bias during the screening and judging of the submitted photos. The photograph to be submitted should be taken with the camera’s highest resolution, in landscape orientation and in JPG format. Photographs to be submitted should have been taken anywhere from September 16, 2015 to September 16, 2016. All photos submitted will become the property of the UPLB Museum of Natural History.

The following photographs or images are disqualified:

  • Photographs that have been previously submitted or have won in any local or international photography contest.
  • Photographs that violate a person’s rights including, but not limited to copyright and privacy.
  • Photographs that contain obscene, sexually explicit, offensive or any other objectionable or inappropriate content.
  • Photographs that are digitally enhanced or altered for creative purposes. Altered images refer to photographs manipulated and applied with special effects (colorizing, toning, collage, photo composites, stitched panoramas, high dynamic range or HDR images, etc.). Only minor adjustments in the color, sharpness, contrast or digital equivalents are allowed.

Criteria for Judging

The entries shall be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Adherence to Theme/Content
  • Creativity and Originality
  • Photographic Quality
  • Composition
  • Visual Impact

Exhibition

The organizers will exhibit the top 16 photos during the MNH Anniversary Week at the MNH Building. Chosen photos will be directly printed by YKL FujiFilm in 12×18 inch print dimensions. Cropping during printing maybe caused by non-conformity to file requirements and will not be the fault of the organizers. Exhibit will be open to the public starting on September 26, 2016

Prizes

  • First prize: PhP 4,000.00 + Certificate
  • Second prize: PhP 3,000.00 + Certificate
  • Third Prize: PhP 2,000.00 + Certificate
    Winners will be made known on September 30, 2016 and will be publicly announced on October 4, 2016 via social media and web posts.

Other Important Guidelines
Winners will be notified by email within 14 days after judging. Winners must provide identification and proof of eligibility if requested. Winners must accept terms of the contest before the prize is released. All entries and their copyrights will become the property of the MNH and none will be acknowledged or returned. Photos will not be returned and will be used to build a photo library for use by the Museum. Such photos may be used for newsletters, magazines, brochures or other publications. Such photos may also be used in connection with promotions, displays, educational programs and may be displayed on the Internet or may be used for any other purpose as the MNH sees fit.
