Aimee (/aɪmiː/), not (/eɪmiː/), is an incoming Grade 10 student from the Philippine Science High School-Bicol Region Campus in Camarines Sur. She is also a DOST scholar who is interested in chemistry and biology. She hopes that her experience as an intern at the Museum of Natural History will help guide her choices as a future senior high student and later as an undergraduate student.

Her two-week internship at MNH is an avenue for her to experience fieldworks instead of solely focusing on writing as she usually does. She expressed eagerness in learning the processes done before laboratory work.

Carmela Maloles is a high school intern at the UPLB Museum of Natural History. She is an incoming Grade 12 student at the UP Rural High School.

At a young age, Carmela has been exposed to hospitals because of her mother’s work. She finds the usual “hospital smell” not as unpleasant as people think it to be. She aspires to be a medical technician and become an obstetrician/gynecologist later on. She also intends to use what she has learned in her internship as she takes other biology subjects like Molecular Biology.

Vea of Cabuyao, Laguna is an incoming Grade 12 student at the UP Rural High School. She is taking up her research internship as part of a subject and is working under the supervision of Dr. Marian P. De Leon of the MNH’s Microbial Culture Collection.

Aspiring to become a pediatrician specializing in pulmonology, Vea is pursuing the K-12’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, & Mathematics) track. She finds laboratory work enjoyable because she is also interested in how scientific equipment helps in research.

Jaymee is a Grade-11 student from the UP Rural High School. She is currently an intern at the UPLB Museum of Natural History Microbial Culture Collection/Laboratory to fulfill the requirements of her subject, SH-RES 3.1 (Senior High Research). Her internship runs the whole months of June and July 2017.

An aspiring microbiologist, Jaymee finds the museum’s internship program a great avenue for her to gain hands-on experience in research since most of the lessons taught in their school are theoretical. She is taking part in a research project “Isolation and Characterization of Actinomycetes in Bat Guano from Sta. Teresita, Cagayan Caves” led by Dr. Marian P. De Leon, MNH’s Curator at the Microbial Culture Collection.

Kitch is currently having her internship at the UPLB Museum of Natural History in partial fulfillment of her degree program, BA Communication Arts major in Writing. Her internship will last from June 5 to July 2, 2017.

Although her course leans more on the Humanities than the Natural Sciences, she believes that a communication arts student should be able to practice effective communication not only in the scope of humanities but even in other scientific fields as all of them need communication in order to relate to people.

Jann is an incoming fourth-year BA Communication Arts (BACA) student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She is currently working as an intern at the Museum of Natural History this June 2017 as a requirement of the BACA Practicum course.

Through the Museum’s internship program she is learning the role of communication in interdisciplinarity. As an intern, she is helping document the Museum’s activities by taking photographs and reporting the activities of the MNH-Texas A&M International Study Abroad Program.

Glai is a BS Biology student from the University of the Philippines Baguio. She worked as a museum intern from June to July 2016 for the completion of her Summer Practical Training Program (SPTP) requirement. She has always been fascinated by the sea and everything in it that’s why her ultimate goal in life is to become a marine biologist. She also wants to raise awareness about the value of the vast oceans and its inhabitants and the threats these have been facing over the past decades.

Joward is an Environmental Management student at Ateneo de Naga University on his 4th year in college. He took the MNH internship program as a requirement for his subject in his school last April-May 2017. He really revels in adrenaline-filled activities like jiu-jitsu and freerunning which really helps him pace with the persistent physical mandate of field works.

According to Joward his awareness on Philippine biodiversity and conservation has expanded over the course of his internship. He especially enjoyed learning under the various field the MNH has to offer especially, the zoological field works which he would like to see into further, he expressed.

Miguel from Baao, Camarines Sur is a BS Environmental Management student whose interests are almost everything especially the quirky side of mainstream and the mainstream side of quirky. Along with Carlo B. Trinidad and Joward B. Bautista, they are student interns last April-May 2017. He is an active member of The PILLARS Publication, Ateneo de Naga’s official student publication in which he self-taught himself all the skills the publication demands.

“My internship experience here in UPLB MNH is SUPERB for I’ve got a chance to attend to their wide-ranging ecological lectures and to participate in their scrupulous and rigorous fieldworks at the foot of Mt. Makiling.” As he exclaimed. His experience here in UPLB MNH had an impact on him.
